Disappointing news has been delivered to Yellowstone fans ahead of this weekend’s midseason finale. Seven episodes of the fifth season have already been shown on Paramount Plus, with the eighth set to premiere on January 1.
After that, though, the show’s comeback date is anyone’s guess. Actress Piper Perabo, who portrays Summer Higgins, told TV Insider that production on the second half of the fifth season has yet to begin.
So, what’s the Yellowstone season 5 update? Let’s find out.
Yellowstone Season 5 Update Is Disappointing

Fans’ expectations for the Yellowstone season 5 halfway point finale are through the roof, but the show’s next batch of episodes just got an update that will make many of them groan in disbelief. Since the first seven episodes of Season 5 have already aired and the show is taking a winter break, fans will only see new episodes after the new year.
In an interview, one of the show’s stars recently acknowledged that production on the upcoming episodes has yet to begin. Piper Perabo, who plays Summer Higgins, hinted to TV Insider that the cast and crew are still determining what will happen after the midseason finale because they have yet to film it.
The episode’s official title and plot summary have been announced.
The title of Yellowstone Season 5’s midseason finale, which will premiere on Sunday, January 1, 2019, on the Paramount Network, is: “Titled “Montana in the Rearview,” the synopsis reads as follows: “Rip and Beth say goodbye with tears in their eyes before he leaves the road.
A commotion is caused by Spencer Dutton’s presence on the African grasslands.” It has yet to be determined when the last episodes of Yellowstone Season 5 will air. There has yet to be any word from Paramount Network about Yellowstone season 5 update to see the show return for the remaining five episodes of Season 5.
Will Yellowstone Be On Paramount+?

Because of a streaming arrangement struck before Paramount+ was rebranded and before Yellowstone became a megahit, the first four seasons of Yellowstone are only available on Peacock and not Paramount+.
However, Paramount+ is the only place to watch Yellowstone prequels like 1883 and 1923. The new episodes of Yellowstone Season 5 will be available on Peacock late next summer, so you’ll have to turn to cable or cable alternatives.

As of early December, fans of Yellowstone have a prequel series to keep them occupied. The prequel, which features Harrison Ford and Dame Helen Mirren, is set in the same universe as Yellowstone and continues the epic story of how the Dutton family landed in Montana a century ago.
Recent interviews with showrunner Taylor Sheridan suggest that Paramount president Bob Bakish’s hopes for a second season in 1883 inspired the idea for 1923.
