The third movie of the popular Harry Potter franchise, Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets Of Dumbledore, was released on April 8th of this year. However, fans of the series are wondering – will there be another Fantastic Beasts movie in the franchise or is this the end? So, here is all we know.
Even though the series was originally planned to be released as a trilogy, the writers and producers of the series expanded the franchise with two more planned films after the success of the first movie of the series, Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them.
However, the release of the fourth sequel of the series may not happen in the near future due to many reasons. Here is everything you know about the next Fantastic Beasts movie.
Will There Be Another Fantastic Beasts Movie?
The first film of the series, Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them, was released on 18th November 2016, which was very well received at the box office, making $800 million the worldwide box office.
The sequel to it, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald made comparatively less in terms of box office collection in 2018, with a box office collection of $654 million, but was generally well-received.
However, the third sequel of the series, Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets Of Dumbledore, made only $396 million which is very much less than the other two movies and holds the record for the lowest weekly gross of any wizarding world movie.
With a production budget of $200 million, the movie likely didn’t even manage to earn the marketing expenses for the production.
The reasons as to why the movie failed to be successful were due to the backlash from people in matters like J.K. Rowling’s transphobic tweets and the recasting of Johnny Depp due to him losing the legal battle against The Sun newspaper after the newspaper published an article by his ex-wife Amber Heard falsely accusing Depp of abusing her.
Movie critics also criticized the production faults of the second and third movies, such as the amount of unnecessary filler scenes and slow pacing plot.
However, many fans are wondering about – will there be another Fantastic Beasts movie or not?
Due to the drop in the success rate of the series, it is unlikely that the fourth sequel of the series will ever actually be released even though it had been planned by Warner Bros.
The original plan of this series being a trilogy now seems to have been a better plan for the series. Producer David Heyman revealed in February of this year that the work on the script of the fourth movie is yet to start, which indicates that we may have to wait a long time for the fourth sequel to be released.
However, even if the fourth sequel of the franchise has been planned to be released, at the earliest we might still have to wait till 2024 for the release.
Unfortunately, The Third movie of the Fantastic Beasts might be the last movie of the franchise due to these production issues. However, with Warner Bros still having planned the fourth and fifth Fantastic Beasts movies, we’re still hopeful that we will get to see more of this series in the future.
