In Avengers: Endgame, we saw Wanda vs Thanos. While Wanda aka Scarlet Witch is often referred to as the most powerful avenger, why did she get defeated? Moreover, in Doctor Strange 2, we saw how deadly she is when Wanda confronted the Illuminatis.
So, what pulled her back in the Wanda vs Thanos fight? Here is everything we know.

Scarlet Witch could have defeated Thanos on her own in Avengers: Endgame, according to WandaVision, if he hadn’t called in reinforcements.
Long before the Marvel Cinematic Universe began, fans questioned which Avenger (and superhero) was the most powerful. That discussion spilled over to the big screen versions of those characters. Thor claimed to be the strongest Avenger, yet in Endgame, Hulk was required to deliver the snap that brought everyone back to life.
Wanda Vs Thanos – Why Wanda Could Not Beat The Mad Titan?

One of the most heated discussions in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been about who could have defeated Thanos in a one-on-one battle.
Many believed that if Thor had harnessed his emotions properly, he could have completed the job. In contrast, others thought that as a living Infinity Stone, Captain Marvel seemed to have the potential to defeat the Mad Titan. On the other hand, Thanos won the Gauntlet in their brief battle.
Wanda Maximoff, played by Elizabeth Olsen, is another candidate for the position, as seen by her crushing Thanos with his armor in Avengers: Endgame. However, her candidacy is thrown into a loop when Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness states that the angry version of Wanda would not have been able to slay the enemy.
Wanda Vision now verifies that Wanda could have defeated Thanos on her own, even though it was widely inferred.
When Darcy Lewis was asked about Wanda vs Thanos’ fight, he revealed Wanda has to be utilizing an “insane amount of power” to power the magic bubble around Westview in WandaVision season 1, episode 5, and Jimmy Woo adds, “Far above anything she’s demonstrated in the past.”
Part of that assertion is correct; however, Monica Rambeau refutes that Wanda was always this powerful, claiming, “She could have taken down Thanos on her own if he hadn’t begun a blitz,” alluding to his spacecraft “raining fire” down on the Avengers in the climactic fight of Endgame.
Thanos vs Scarlet Witch – The Darkhold Brings More Power!!

It had something to do with both the Darkhold and that it was the item that truly advanced Wanda’s level. She was strong but not the strongest before the Multiverse of Madness.
The original Thanos in Wakanda, fueled by Infinity stones, was able to absorb her crimson energy while still defeating her and killing Vision. Despite his suffering, the second Thanos took Wanda’s best shots.
Wanda struggled to control her fury and evil side entirely. The Darkhold, on the other hand, accomplished just that when she killed the Ultron bots in her most recent visit. Wanda bent reality to the point that she suffocated Black Bolt, shredded Reed Richards, ripped Captain Carter in two, dumped a statue on Captain Marvel, and snapped Charles Xavier’s neck thanks to these improvements. Wanda didn’t become a genuine monster until she lost Vision and her children.
And it’s because of this shift, that she wasn’t able to kill both incarnations of Thanos like she crushed the Illuminati.
Rather than being the naive hero from Infinity War, Scarlet Witch became a mass killer in the blink of an eye, hellbent on her purpose as an angry mother from Westview. Thanos from another universe would have disgraced the Scarlet Witch in Multiverse of Madness, with or without the Stones, a terrifying idea for the MCU.
