After Angelina Jolie brought the iconic character of Lara Croft in 2001, Director Roar Uthaug rebooted the Tomb Raider franchise in 2018 and witnessed great success with Vikander as the new Lara Croft.
The storyline of the movie Tomb Raider was Lara Croft’s attempt to rescue her father, Richard Croft, from an island. As per reports, the movie earned approximately $274 million worldwide.
After the first part’s success, the team announced that Tomb Raider 2 would be up for release. But the pandemic hit this one hard. Since then, the fate of Tomb Raider 2 has been hanging.

As the Tomb Raider franchise moved forward and was all set for Tomb Raider 2, the American screenwriter, producer, and director Misha Green were confirmed to direct the second drop of this franchise along with Alicia Vikander as Lara Croft.
The Fate of Tomb Raider 2 Still In Dark
With the Coronavirus pandemic’s onset, Tomb Raider 2 has experienced significant delays. But the shoot of this sequel seems to be having no spotlight.
In a recent interview by Alicia Vikander to EW, she shared, “With the MGM and Amazon buyout, I have no clue. Now it’s a kind of politics. I think Misha and I have been ready, so it’s kind of in somebody else’s hands, to be honest.”
This is bad news for all the Lara Croft fans as the sequel has already been delayed, but the much-awaited movie seems to be in racks now!! As if Coronavirus was not enough that new issues have started popping up, resulting in slowing Tomb Raider 2.
Lara Croft and Tomb Raider 2: Are we seeing them anytime soon?
With the recent developments, the Tomb Raider Lara Croft, AKA Alicia Vikander, opened up about how she is doubtful about the release of the movie Tomb Raider 2.
With Amazon’s buyout of MGM, things have now changed. The recent update on the release of Tomb Raider 2 now goes back to the shelves.
According to the buzz, the future of the film Tomb Raider appears blurry as now the reasons are more political and business related. The $8.5 billion deal that happened in March between Amazon and MGM has affected the future of this film.

With all this going around, Tomb Raider 2 has no concrete timeline. We are all waiting to see Lara Croft in action again!!! Hoping to see what we are waiting for the most!!
