Sam Elliott Says ‘Yellowstone taints 1883’: “I Think 1883 Stands Alone
Yellowstone and Its Many Offshoots: A Guide
“I’m not a big admirer of Yellowstone. During a recent interview with Marc Maron on his “WTF” podcast, Elliott, 77, remarked, “I don’t watch Yellowstone.” “[Kevin] Costner is one of my favorite actors. Several talented folks on the cast, including a couple with whom I’ve previously collaborated. I have nothing against them, but it reminds me too much of–king Dallas or whatever.”
After appearing in 1883 as Shea Brennan, they compared the Golden Globe candidate to Dallas, a soap series that aired from 1978 to 1991.
The Dutton family’s trip from Tennessee to Montana was the subject of this short series.
Sam Elliott expressed his displeasure with the prologue being likened to the original show at the season finale of 1883 late last month. “Yellowstone is all over here,” says the narrator. Yellowstone has poisoned us, which I can’t stand on some levels,” the California native told Taste of Country in January.
“Because I believe 1883 is unique and will remain such.” When it’s out, people will remark, ‘Oh, sure, the only link is that it brought John Dutton to Montana.'”
The Buffalo Girls star also said that he first turned down the opportunity to join the Yellowstone world. Elliott opted to join in 1883 instead after speaking with founder Taylor Sheridan.

During an episode of “The Official Yellowstone Podcast” last month, Sam Elliott said of Sheridan, 51, “I’d never interacted with him before.” “I’d seen his art and read some of what he’d written.” I’d seen him on Sons of Anarchy and was familiar with him as an actor.
“Wow, how then can one person have so many abilities?” I wondered when I first saw him as a writer in Sicario.
Sam Elliott has become increasingly outspoken in recent months. He made news lately when he called the Academy to award film The Power of the Dog a “piece of s–t.”
They’re going around without shirts and in chaps. “Throughout the movie, there are all these hints to homosexuality,” he stated on the “WTF” podcast in February before criticizing filmmaker Jane Campion’s vision for the western production.
“What the f–k does this down-under chick know about the American West?” What the f–k was she thinking when she shot this movie in New Zealand and called it Montana? And you’re going to claim that’s how it was? That f–king irritated the hell out of me.”
“Beyond that reaction, that sort of denial that someone could have anything other than a heteronormative existence because of what they do for a living or where they’re born,” the 45-year-old Englishman said in a recent interview with BAFTA Film Sessions.
“Nowhere is this more true than in the Western ideal mould of masculinity, where men are expected to comply. It’s hardly a history lesson to dismantle that via Phil.”
Jesse Plemons, Cumberbatch’s costar, said he “laughed” when he heard the critique. On Saturday, Plemons, 33, told Variety, “I don’t know why [I laughed].” “I haven’t listened to [Elliott’s podcast interview], but I have heard it from others.
” I understand that there are some overtones to what he said, but I also believe that you don’t have to like the film to enjoy it, and that’s perfectly OK. It does not have to appeal to everyone.”
