Is Fresh a true story? Here is everything we know.

Fresh is a comedy thriller that looks at modern-day dating with a healthy dose of cannibalism thrown in for good measure. Thanks to sequels, reboots, remakes, and adaptations of other works, the horror genre has had a tremendous run in recent years, but it appears to have been stuck on those.

Fresh, directed by Mimi Cave and written by Lauryn Kahn, is one of the most current (and exciting) original stories being developed and presented in cinemas and on streaming platforms.

Fresh investigates the evils of modern dating and takes them to their logical conclusion, and what makes it even scarier is that the concept of a man who sells female meat and targets single women isn’t entirely unbelievable.

Unfortunately, there have been numerous documented examples of human trafficking for the purpose of selling human meat, and restaurants have even offered human flesh as an expensive treat on their menus. With all of this in mind, it wouldn’t be unexpected if Fresh was based on a genuine tale, but Fresh is a unique fiction that isn’t based on any real-life cases of cannibalism or “human flesh markets,” and instead draws inspiration from something else.

When it came time for her to write one, she was told by that individual that they “wrote the scariest thing to them,” according to Kahn in an interview with THR. After that, Kahn decided to investigate “something grounded from a female perspective in the dating world” and depict “the subconscious way women operate in the world that men are unaware of.”

Cannibalism appears to have been the finishing touch Fresh needed to transform into a horror film, as it’s a fitting metaphor for women’s objectification. There are certainly a number of real-life, awful incidents of the “human flesh market,” and there are likely many more that operate on the black market and in various ways, but Fresh’s main inspirations originate from other forms of atrocities, as noted above.
