in the lead role.

The Hunger Games prequel will center on the life of 18-year-old Coriolanus, who fans of the series will already recognize as the dictatorial president of Panem before he assumes office.

Coriolanus Snow is the last hope for his dwindling lineage. According to the movie’s official synopsis, this once-proud family has fallen from grace in a post-war Capitol. The young Snow is alarmed when he is assigned to mentor Lucy Gray Baird (Ziegler), the girl tribute from impoverished District 12, with the 10th annual Hunger Games drawing near.

Snow believes he might be able to change the odds in their favor after Lucy Gray seizes Panem’s attention by defiantly singing during the reaping ceremony.

Francis Lawrence, who also helmed the franchise’s Catching Fire, Mockingjay Part One, and Mockingjay Part Two, will helm the movie.

The same-titled novel by Suzanne Collins, published in 2020, served as the inspiration for the screenplay.

According to a recent update, the movie was “moving along really, really well” in pre-production.

On November 17, 2023, The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes will be released in theaters.
