On May 2, the first full trailer was published. It depicts Florence Pugh’s character, which is equal parts racy and spooky, getting suspicious of the actual nature of the rustic, Stepford Wives-style neighborhood she’s living in, where all spouses – including her own, portrayed by Styles – work on a mystery project. Her inquiries cause rifts in her marriage, yet the sultry teaser hints that the couple’s sexual relationship is unaffected.

Don’t Worry Darling will be a far cry from the director’s hilarious feature debut, Booksmart, a psychological thriller about a 1950s housewife living with her husband in an innovative utopian community. According to the logline, despite her luxurious surroundings, she quickly suspects that something eviler may be lurking beneath the surface.
The teaser is both weird and seductive
Wilde teased a tantalizing first look at the story on Instagram on September 13, 2021. Pugh looks calm in blue gingham and a ’50s bouffant in the 10-second teaser, which then shifts to an unsettling vignette of the suburbs and a view of Pugh and Styles kissing furiously. A boisterous party, a squad of synchronized swimmers, a picture of Pugh appearing worried underwater, and another one of her with her head wrapped in plastic that she pulls off with blood-red fingernails are all seen.
The first image is empathetically personal
The first still for Don’t Worry Darling, released on April 26, shows Styles and Pugh hugging in bed. Pugh is dressed in a pale blue lacy slip with honey-colored locks falling on her back, and both are wearing big gold rings. There’s a sense of intimacy and desire as they stare into one other’s eyes, but there’s also a sense of unease, likely due to the knowledge that they’re holding secrets from each other that will impact their lives.
