Death Note is a thrilling anime adaptation of the manga by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata.

The story follows Light Yagami, a high school student who comes across the titular Death Note, as long as he knows the name and face of anyone he writes into it, he can kill them. Ryuk, a Shinigami that dropped the Death Note on Earth, visits Light as he begins using the book to kill criminals.

As criminals worldwide start to drop dead inexplicably, ambiguous detective L is called in to learn who this mysterious killer could be – “Kira,” they would later call him after careful analysis of past incidents and statistical data. The series was adapted into an anime series in 2006 and ran until 2007 for 37 episodes.

It was crowdfunded on Netflix thanks to its large cult following, which helped garner more popularity than it initially had during its run on Japanese television.
